Shawnigan's Grade 8 and Grade 9 rugby boys opened their seasons on Thursday with positive results and performances – a particularly impressive result as many of the players are new to the game
The Grade 8 boys played a back-and-forth contest against SMUS, winning by a pair of tries. Coach Wes Plater says the squad was courageous on defence and the entire group was ecstatic with the debut. Coach Plater says the whole team surpassed expectations, singling out Henry G. for his defensive effort and Marcus D. for his leadership.
The Grade 9 boys ventured to Island Play Day at Brentwood College School, squaring off against both Brentwood and SMUS. The team earned wins in both matchups, with Coaches Monro and Linn both very encouraged. The Grade 9's visit Collingwood and St. George's next week.
