Midget Varsity Ice Hockey sweep the board in Calgary

Four wins in four games at Edge Showcase
Shawnigan’s Midget Varsity ice hockey team’s first weekend away was a resounding success. The team left Shawnigan at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday and arrived in Calgary just in time for Friday’s 4:00 p.m. game. The first match-up saw the boys beat host team Edge 6-1. They moved on from that initial success to a win their second game against Banff Hockey Academy 7-1 on Saturday morning, followed by a 4-0 victory over IHA on Saturday evening. Goalie Carl S. played a strong game against IHA, earning a 25-save shutout.

Finally, on Sunday morning, as fatigue started to set in, the team played Edge again and won 5-4 in overtime. The Varsity team’s overall record on the season now sits at 7-0.

Head coach Jame Pollock says, “Having such a long road trip at this point in the season provided a great opportunity for the team to come together. Working for four wins in four games in less than 48 hours was good for the boys and made the trip back home all the more enjoyable.”

After a well-earned break over the Thanksgiving long weekend, the Midget Varsity team will regroup and head to Idaho for the Coeur d'Alene Showcase from October 12-15.

In other ice hockey action, Shawnigan’s Bantam Prep team hosted Burnaby Winter Club on Sunday, falling 5-4.  Coach Bob Beatty says the group's performance was much improved from the opening weekend of the season.  Coach Beatty singled out goaltender Nolan M., in particular, for his 58-save effort.
