Girls Basketball Tips Off

Positive Start for Juniors and Seniors
Shawnigan's senior girls are feeling optimistic after a strong showing at the ISA Basketball Championship.

After an initial loss to Mulgrave on Friday, the girls earned a commanding win over West Point Grey Academy later the same day. They followed that up with a victory over Brentwood College School on Saturday morning.

Players-of-the-game included Kaitlyn K., Milena J. and Tolani A., while Tatum H. also made key offensive contributions.

Coach Darrin Austin says he's positive about the start to the season, while adding "There's still lots to build on."

Shawnigan's junior girls also impressed in their first competitive action of the year.

Playing at a tournament at Vancouver Island University, Coach Ronni Brown says "The girls played phenomenally. Especially for our first tourney of the year, the girls were great."

Shawnigan opened the tournament with a triumph over Kwalicum on Thursday. On Friday, the girls earned a tough win over Mark Isfeld to secure a berth in the final. Saturday's final proved to be a thriller, with Shawnigan ultimately edging Belmont by six points to claim the tournament title.

Next up for the junior girls is a tournament in Vancouver, Dec. 15-16.  The seniors play a regular season game at Frances Kelsey, Dec. 12, before entering a tournament in Duncan, Dec. 15-16.
