Strategic Plan

Steward Campus & Community

At Shawnigan, our distinct sense of community – rooted in shared purpose and human interaction – sets the foundation for all we do. Our Pacific Coast campus is more than a setting; it is a dynamic environment where students and staff live, learn, and grow together. To strengthen this ecosystem, we will prioritize the people, places, and systems that sustain it. By investing in our human resources, stewarding our campus for future generations, and harnessing technology to support both teaching and operations, we will build a more connected, resilient, and future-ready community.
Priority 1: Evolve our Human Resources practices in order to attract, support, and retain exceptional people to drive a thriving, future-ready school community.

Objectives:
  • Implement a transparent and equitable compensation framework that attracts top talent, and supports, retains, and recognizes staff contributions.
  • Align staffing structures and capacity with strategic goals to ensure the right people, in the right roles, at the right time.
  • Establish a Talent Management Program that strengthens recruitment, retention rates, employee engagement, and career and leadership development.
  • Attract, retain, and grow a globally minded and inspiring team of educators committed to innovation, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
  • Embed staff well-being initiatives that promote physical, mental, and professional wellness across the School.
  • Foster an inclusive staff culture, where every employee has equitable opportunities to contribute meaningfully to school life.
Priority 2: Steward and invest in our physical campus to ensure it is safe, sustainable, and inspiring for generations to come.

Objectives:
  • Develop and implement a long-term campus master plan that supports strategic priorities and reflects the evolving needs of students, staff, and programs.
  • Advance sustainability across campus operations by setting measurable targets and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
  • Address deferred maintenance and invest in preventative systems to ensure facilities meet current and future needs safely and reliably.
  • Ensure capital and operational investments align with school values, priorities, and long-term resilience.
Priority 3: Leverage technology to elevate learning, improve operational excellence, and prepare our community for a rapidly evolving digital future.

Objectives:
  • Develop and implement a long-term technology roadmap that aligns with academic and operational goals, and standardizes core platforms to improve user experience, reduce complexity, and support future-readiness.
  • Deliver professional learning opportunities that empower educators to meaningfully integrate technology into teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Equip operational staff with the digital skills and tools they need to increase efficiency, collaboration, and service delivery.
  • Develop and deploy an artificial intelligence strategy that supports responsible innovation in education and operations, positioning Shawnigan as a forward-thinking leader in this space.
