Strategic Plan

Imagine Student Life Unparalleled

Priority 1: Help students thrive by building emotional intelligence, resilience, self-advocacy, and compassion through the design and promotion of a unique “Shawnigan Student Life Journey” that nurtures the mind, body, character, and spirit from Grade 8 to graduation, recognizing the centrality of boarding culture to the strength of our community.

Objectives:
  • Ensure that Student Life, Co-Curricular, and Academic programming is intentional, complementary, and balanced.
  • Articulate a clear understanding of what it means to “be Shawnigan” through values, traditions and culture.
  • Strive for an equitable experience for every student across all programs, recognizing and celebrating every individual’s unique remarkable.
  • Develop a premier Grade 8 boarding and day experience that draws families early into the Shawnigan Journey.

Priority 2: Give students the skills and vocabulary to develop healthy habits for life, building resilience and empathy, enabling them to thrive in a dynamic future by strengthening our emphasis on well-being literacy as a cornerstone of the Shawnigan Journey.

Objectives:
  • Further integrate the Well-Being Centre into boarding house life as the heart of our community’s well-being practices.
  • Coordinate the work of the Well-Being Centre, Health Centre, HCE/CLE/CLC Department, Athletic Therapists, Learning Centre,
Professional Development Office, and parent engagement initiatives.
  • Evolve the shared language and common approach to raising young people in our boarding community, based on research and examples of excellent practice from around the world.
  • Develop the expertise of our staff in boarding, so we can grow our reputation as leaders in this field.
  • Continue upgrading boarding infrastructure equitably across all Houses.

Priority 3: Empower students as leaders and change agents within the Shawnigan community and beyond.

Objectives:
  • Create a student leadership and teamwork curriculum (Grades 8–10) that complements existing leadership programs.
  • Form partnerships with leading boarding schools to expose students to best practices in student leadership.
  • Cultivate a sense of ownership among students, reinforcing that their voices are heard and valued.
