Inspire Academic Excellence

Priority 1: Inspire students to develop future-shaping skills such as a commitment to lifelong learning, critical thinking, digital literacy, adaptability, and ethical decision-making through the enhancement and further articulation of the distinctive “Shawnigan Academic Journey.”
 
Objectives:
  • Enhance our rich curriculum through authentic connection with our place in Vancouver Island, Canada, and the wider world.
  • Support and encourage students to pursue ambitious post-secondary opportunities, both nationally and internationally.
  • Develop a comprehensive digital literacy experience for all students.
  • Track student growth to inform teaching practice and make data-driven decisions that enhance the Shawnigan Academic Journey.
  • Expand curricula and experiences that foster student agency in areas of environmental sustainability and social justice.
 
Priority 2: Equip students with the confidence, knowledge, and courage to solve real-world problems through inspirational teaching and innovative pedagogy focused on inquiry-based, experiential, and transdisciplinary learning.
 
Objectives:
  • Provide targeted professional development that supports our strategic pedagogical focus.
  • Strengthen collaboration through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
  • Diversify assessment practices to align with innovative instructional methods.
  • Build strategic partnerships with higher education institutions to extend learning beyond the classroom.
  • Fully integrate Indigenous Ways of Knowing across all disciplines.
