The senior boys touring team enjoyed several days in Vancouver, including attending the Canada Sevens, before beginning the 38-hour trek to Cape Town.
Day 2: We enjoyed watching the Stormers training session and then went to Bishops College for a controlled scrimmage. Both squads were preparing for matches on Saturday. We then went for a team dinner at a local steakhouse.
Day 3: The day started off with a swim at Camps Beach and some touch rugby in the sand. We then boarded the bus and travelled to Langa Township where the boys helped coach various children ages 6-10 in tag rugby. This was a very humbling and rewarding experience for everyone.
Day 4: Today was a rugby day. The 1st and 2nd XV's played their first games of the Festival. The 1st XV played De Kuilen High School and lost 27-10. The score was not indicative of the play; the team held possession for much of the first half and played some good rugby. The 2nd XV played Brakenfell High in another good game. The boys got off to a slow start, but rallied in a 41-27 loss to a formidable opponent. Many lessons were learned today and we look forward to the second game on Monday. We then went up to watch an annual match between Bishops College and St. Andrew's College. The atmosphere was electric, with close to 3,000 people cheering on the teams. The day was topped off with a Super Rugby match between the Stormers and Brumbies. The iconic Newlands Stadium was full of Stormers fans cheering for the underdog, with the Stormers pulling off an impressive 31-11 win. Over all, a wonderful day! We are off to Table Mountain and the Penguin Colony in the morning, which should make for yet another memorable day.
