Shawnigan's rugby teams are making strides early in the season.
Fresh off a Spring Break tour to South Africa, the 1st XV hosted Australia's Somerset College on Saturday, earning a 33-22 victory over a strong, defensive squad.
The Girls XV, meanwhile, comfortably beat NDSS in their first league game of the season on Thursday.
In Colwood on Friday, two Colts sides ('B' and 'C') participated in the Rotary Sevens tournament, with many players enjoying their first competitive rugby action. Assistant Coach Tom Robinson singled out grade 8 Nico F. for an 'outstanding tournament,' while grade 9 Roberto G. led brilliantly by example.
The Colt 'A' and 'B' teams also earned strong victories over competitive Brentwood sides on Saturday.
Shawnigan's Senior 2nd XV also took part in the Rotary Sevens, winning all of their group phase matches and a semifinal, before a narrow defeat to Glenlyon Norfolk in the final.
Four teams (1st XV, 2nd XV, Colts 'A' and 'B') are preparing for key home matchups vs. St. George's School on April 9th.
