This year the level of tennis displayed during our intramural tournaments was arguably the highest it has been in my 31 years at Shawnigan! Nour E., demonstrating incredible consistency with her slice groundstrokes almost successfully defended her Chu Cup singles title from last year in a match that lasted over two hours. Ultimately, though, Noa W. countering with topspin groundstrokes and attacking volleys, prevailed in the third set tiebreaker.
In the Grogan Cup, Alexander W. and Ryan P. took up from where they left off last year. Ryan narrowly won last year's match in the third set and Alexander did not make things easy for him this year as he attacked at every turn and often had the winning shot at his disposal. Ryan successfully defended his title with a superb display of consistency and touch. The level of play prompted many "oohs" and "aahs" from the spectators.
In the the Coupe de toute saison, Nour and Alexander teamed up to take on Ryan and Nikki G.. Each set ended in a tiebreaker and ultimately, the third set tiebreaker was won narrowly by Nour and Alexander. These three tournaments provided an excellent finish to a fine season.
