Japan Super Science Fair

Sharing Scientific Research

Nine days in Japan has given a few Shawnigan students lifelong lessons in science and culture.
From Nov. 10-19, three students ventured to the Kyoto area for the annual Japan Super Science Fair. For three days, the group was housed at Ritsumeikan University, as they shared their work in the fair's Project Poster Exhibition, as well as teaming up to present a group project about research being done in Shawnigan's Mark Hobson Hatchery. As well, they worked on group experiments and took in presentations from their peers around the world, on topics ranging from ecology to physics, biology, chemistry, robotics, and math.
While in Kyoto, the Shawnigan contingent was hosted by a pair of 'buddies' from Ritsumeikan High School, enjoying tours of museums, temples, castles, and industrial areas in the Kyoto area.
For science teacher Scott Noble, who accompanied the group, the trip was special thanks to the three amazing students he shared it with. "Our hosts were fabulous, and experiencing the food and culture in general was just fantastic."
