Provincial Golf

Bronze Medal Performance

Another sensational second day has earned a bronze medal for Shawnigan's golf team.

Two weeks after coming from behind to finish second at the Vancouver Island Championship and thereby clinch a berth at Provincials, the team ventured to Pheasant Glen Golf Resort for BC's AA tournament.

Sitting in fourth position after a decent first day, the group vaulted into a tie for second thanks to a strong day two. With no options for playoff holes, BC School Sports uses a countback system for tiebreaks, leaving the Shawnigan team with a third place finish.

"It was a very tough field, featuring many of the Province's top players," says team Coordinator David Hyde-Lay. "Despite being played on a tough, penal course, the scores were very low across the board."

Coach Hyde-Lay notes that the finish is particularly rewarding given Shawnigan's young squad, with Grade 8 Adam H. posting the team's top rounds. "The future is really bright for this group," Hyde-Lay says.
