A New Beginning

Welcoming New Students
We welcomed new students on Tuesday. After moving into their Houses, these new members of our community enjoyed a barbecue in the quad and then moved to the Chapel for an address from the Headmaster, The Reverend Holland, and the Heads of School, Mikayla and Gareth.

Gareth acknowledged the “nervous bodies” gathered in the Chapel and reassured students that they would find their way and feel comfortable very soon. He went on to say that the Prefect group sees as their purview, “...to empower you, as the future of Shawnigan, and to continue the work of the one hundred and three Prefect groups who have proceeded us. We want to do everything in our power to make you successful at Shawnigan.”

Mikayla stressed the importance of recognizing opportunities and to make the most of those new challenges: “Right now is your time to be who you want to be. This is your opportunity for a fresh start ؘ– a new beginning. Everyone here will have your back and support your endeavours, but it is your choice to seize the day!”

We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
