Senior Girls advance to Islands
Shawnigan’s Senior Girls basketball team competed in the North Island Tournament at Kwalikum Secondary School over the weekend. This competition serves as a qualifier for the Island Championships, with the top four teams advancing. Our team had a fantastic tournament, making it through all three rounds and coming out victorious in the final! “The last game of the tournament was their best game of the season, by far,” praised Coach Mr. Austin. He lauded the strong play of all the girls, mentioning in particular the different ways in which Milena J., Abby D., Ella L. and Lauryn L. contributed to their success at the tournament.
Next up for this talented team are the Island Championships this Thursday through Saturday, hosted here at Shawnigan Lake School. Our girls, as the number one seed from the North Island, will begin play against the fourth seed from the South Island. They hope to continue in their strong play, as the top two teams from the Island Championships will advance to the Provincials at the end of this month.
