Happy Canada Day

Bringing the community together
On Canada Day, Shawnigan Lake School was proud to participate in a local community scavenger hunt organized by the Shawnigan Lake Community Association.

With 12 secret locations to visit around the lake, the #cowichanstrong scavenger hunt represented a wonderful opportunity for community organizations to come together and help provide a fun family Canada Day experience for local residents.

Shawnigan Lake School’s drop-in station was set up in front of the main building, with School staff on hand to distribute Canadian-themed goodies and homemade ice-cream bars prepared by Head Chef Dustin Setso.

“This unique celebration demonstrated the strength and compassion of our community. It was well-organized and inclusive and recognized the special place we call home, as well as our friends and neighbours with whom we share it,” says Sara Blair, Director of Board & Community Partnerships.

In addition to following safety protocols, including physical distancing, to ensure that both volunteers and community members were protected under recommended health guidelines, the scavenger hunt prize draw also featured gift certificates for local Shawnigan Lake businesses to help restart their operations.
