Disney Magic

Release of movie filmed at Shawnigan
Shawnigan’s campus offers enough real-life magic that it was selected as one of several Vancouver Island filming locations for Upside-Down Magic, a new Disney Channel Original Movie. The charming, family-friendly adventure fantasy is based on the New York Times bestselling children's book series of the same name.

During summer 2019, Shawnigan played host to the cast and crew of the television movie as they transformed familiar campus settings—including the Chapel, the Quad, the Hatchery, the Alumni Gardens, Mitchell Hall, Marion Hall, the Library, and Renfrew House—into the magical world of Sage Academy.

Thank you to the Bradley Family Foundation for its support of this initiative, which provided opportunities for Shawnigan students to be movie extras and to observe a film production unit in action on campus.

Upside-Down Magic premieres at 8:00 pm on Friday, July 31 on the Disney Channel.
