New Beginnings

The 2020-21 school year has begun!
Almost every student had a few butterflies in their stomachs as they marched off to their first day of classes on Monday, but teachers were able to quickly put them at ease as they organized class spaces into cohort groupings. Our instructors were so positive and ready for action on the first day – they have really been looking forward to teaching in person and meeting new students.

After a full day, Mr. McLeod invited the School, again in our cohort groupings, to explore the world of 360 Co-curricular activities at a fair held in the quad. Students then mulled over the huge variety of offerings and made their choices for these after-class activities.

This week also marks the first day of sport activities. Coaches have worked tremendously hard to facilitate athletic endeavours whilst following current health and safety guidelines.

We have all been adjusting to the new timetable, which is garnering great commentary so far. Everyone is excited about how the rest of the week will unfold, including our first “Black” schedule on Friday (our new timetable includes alternating “Black” and “Gold” days).

Shawnigan Lake School is adhering to all COVID-19 guidelines released by the BC Ministries of Health and Education, including those regarding learning cohorts, physical distancing and mask-wearing when appropriate.

We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
