Snow Days

Ski Week comes to campus
Traditionally, this is the time of year when the Shawnigan school community decamps to Manning Park for Ski Week. With that annual event off the agenda this year, exciting plans were put in place to offer students a host of fun and restorative long weekend activities instead.

To everyone’s delight, the weekend took an extra special turn with upwards of 35cm of snow falling in Shawnigan Lake between Friday night and Sunday afternoon, bringing a genuine taste of Ski Week to the School's campus instead.

In addition to long weekend activities including drop-in hockey for beginners, mahjong, trail building, mountain biking, gym drop-ins and open art room sessions, students were able to spend plenty of time outdoors, having snow ball fights, skiing and sledding on the slopes surrounding Canada Field. Some students even took the home-grown Ski Week experience one step further, building snow caves that a few hardy souls chose to spend a night in.

Our thanks go to the crew of committed grounds staff who, along with student helpers, worked to clear campus roads and walkways in readiness for a full return to regular campus programming on Tuesday.

Shawnigan Lake School is adhering to all COVID-19 guidelines released by the BC Ministries of Health and Education, including those regarding learning cohorts, physical distancing and mask-wearing when appropriate.
