House Spirit

Inter-house events re-imagined
Shawnigan continues to reimagine our much-loved school tradition of inter-house competition. These contests, spanning the entire school year and encompassing a wide range of events, bring Houses together like nothing else. Competition is always fierce and House spirit is displayed in spectacular fashion no matter the event – whether it’s track and field, air band or spelling bee, student enthusiasm is unmatched.

This year, competition organizers have ingeniously adapted inter-house events to comply with current restrictions and protocols – and students have continued to embrace them! Our first two events, Tug o’ War and Puzzling, were wildly popular and served to strengthen House ties while bringing the whole School together (not physically, of course!).

More recently, we held Inter-House Karaoke and Reach for the Top competitions. Both events required a little creative thinking to enable us to safely run them, and thanks to these efforts both were hugely successful.

Congratulations to the winning Houses and to all participants for their outstanding efforts! In Karaoke, Lonsdale’s House came first among the boys’ Houses and Strathcona won the girls’ side. In Reach for the Top, Lonsdale’s was again the winning boys’ House while Groves’ took the lead among the girls’ Houses.

Shawnigan Lake School is adhering to all COVID-19 guidelines released by the BC Ministries of Health and Education, including those regarding learning cohorts, physical distancing and mask-wearing when appropriate.
