Over the weekend 13-15th September, we hosted the annual Shawnigan Junior Open Tournament. This Squash BC sanctioned tournament attracted the best players in the Province, and there was some excellent squash to be seen over the course of the three day event. The Boys' Gold Final provided a fitting culmination to a great weekend of good play and sportsmanship. Shawnigan's Bransten M. demonstrated incredible skill and athleticism as he prevailed 3-1 over Gavin M. of SMUS in a most entertaining match. Multi-talented Nathan B. showed that in addition to his amazing violin playing, he is also a force to be reckoned with on the squash court.
In the Boys' Silver Division, Nicho L., Rhys B., Simon L-S. and Cade S. showed their potential with some very good squash against a number of up-and-coming BC players. Rhys won the Consolation and Cade took home the Saucer. The future of Shawnigan Squash looks bright as we dominated the Bronze Division with Brandon L. winning the event. Others who did well were Jack X., Drew Z., Stewart U., and Nick C.
Kelsey M. was the top Shawnigan girl in the competition. There were also good performances by Rie O., Elise M., Barbara H. and Katherine P. Thanks go to coach Mike Johnson for all his hard work on court to bring out the best in the players.
A tournament of this calibre could not take place without the support of a number of people. We would like to thank the Headmaster, the Shawnigan Parents' Association, Shawnigan culinary staff and the Thursday Night Players for all their support. Special thanks go to our generous sponsors: Monk Office, Taiji Brand Group, Bowmel Chrysler, Duncan and Nik West Photography.
