Career Day

Grade 11 and 12 students participate in Shawnigan's first annual Career Day!
Students in grade 11 and 12 spent last Friday afternoon immersed in Career Day. Jointly sponsored by the Guidance and Advancement Offices, this exciting event brought 23 speakers to campus, including our Keynote Speaker, Rudy Massimo, whose address was entitled "Transitions to Higher Places: From Base Camp to Summit." Emphasizing the importance of self-confidence, focus and commitment, he shared his powerful experiences in mountaineering to illustrate how attitude and state of mind help to shape goal-setting and achievement. Students then left for their small-group sessions, which ran the gamut of careers -- law, medicine, engineering, business and finance, theatre, emergency services, and entrepreneurship to name a few. Transitions can be difficult for all of us, particularly for students who may find it hard to imagine what life after Shawnigan will be like. Our speakers offered their professional experience with an engaging personal touch, connecting with students, talking honestly and openly about their experiences, offering advice, answering their questions, and challenging them to think clearly and imaginatively about where they would like their Shawnigan experience to take them.

Special thanks to all of our Alumni, Parents, Faculty and Friends who volunteered to speak.
