Hospital Foundation Gala

Students volunteer for pivotal evening

After countless hours of organizing and planning, the 2015 Cowichan Hospital Gala was a great success. Each year, this fantastic evening is hosted in Marion Hall, with all of the proceeds raised going directly back to the hospital, in order to help underfunded areas.

Over the past few years, the gala has been hosted by Shawnigan and more than one million dollars has been raised. This year, funds were raised through ticket sales, raffle draws, and the silent and live auctions.

As with previous years, this event would not have been possible without the help of the Shawnigan students. More than 100 students volunteered throughout the evening, many of them working for three or more hours on Saturday night despite other commitments on Saturday and early Sunday morning. From serving delicious food (prepared by our fantastic kitchen staff) to setting-up the gala, all of the roles were crucial to the success of this evening. Our guests were extremely impressed with the service and generosity of the Shawnigan students, and they are all looking forward to receiving the same hospitality next year!

I look forward to handing over the ‘keys’ to the future leader of the Hospital Gala Fundraiser, and I wish continued luck for all future galas.

Special thanks to Executive Chef James McClellan and the entire kitchen staff, Gary Dukelow, and all of the volunteers who helped make this evening possible!
