Fresh from a full school gathering in the Chapel on Wednesday afternoon, students made their way to the Quad for the Fine Arts Fair where they had the opportunity to browse the stalls, talk with instructors and select their fine art options for the year.
With 34 diverse options ranging from woodworking and fly tying to Model UN and the student-run Shawnigan News Network, there’s an art or activity for all interests and level of ability.
Students were able to watch and participate in live demonstrations such as wool spinning and recording arts, which were designed to pique interest and give students a hands-on exploration of their options.
Every student at Shawnigan participates in an art or activity at least two afternoons each week. The goal of the Arts & Activities program is to expose students to a wide variety of activities that are designed to encourage creativity and broaden their appreciation and interest for the arts.
Many of the activities also include an important service component, which ranges from local conservation and environmental efforts for members of E-Club to running local reading programs for the Library group.
We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
