Where — and what — is Shawnigan Lake?
Beyond our excellence in academics, athletics and boarding, Shawnigan is proud to be located on the shore of majestic Shawnigan Lake on Vancouver Island, a region of natural beauty and deep history, and part of the community of Shawnigan Lake within the Cowichan Valley. Here is just some information about the lake and the community that surrounds the School.Read MoreAdapted from the Hul’q’umi’num word “Showe’luqun,” “Shawnigan Lake” is the name of both a pristine seven-kilometre-long lake on Vancouver Island and the rural, wilderness-ringed community that has grown up on its edges.
We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
Shawnigan Lake School is an independent co-educational boarding school for ages 13 –18 on Canada’s beautiful West Coast. Our diverse, interdisciplinary and innovative programming helps shape the next generation of global leaders.
