As students prepare to return to school, Shawnigan is receiving more uplifting news from the class of 2018.
New results show that a number of senior Shawnigan students demonstrated strong college-level achievement through their AP courses and exams.
That includes 19 students named "AP Scholars" – meaning they received scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. 12 students earned acclaim as "AP Scholars with Honour" – meaning they scored at least 3.25 on all of their AP exams and posted scores of 3 or higher on four or more of them. 18 students are "AP Scholars with Distinction" – which requires a score of 3.5 on all AP exams and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of them.
Nine students, including three Grade 11s, are "National AP Scholars" – after receiving scores of 4 or higher on five or more exams.
"Our AP results this year are very strong," says Wendy Milne, Shawnigan Assistant Head – Academics. "It is great to see that all of the hard work put forward by both the students and their teachers has led to some excellent results in these university-level exams."
Mrs. Milne also drew particular attention to Barbara H., who earned the School's first AP Capstone Diploma after completing both AP Seminar and AP Research as well as earning an overall average of 3.6 on her nine AP exams. "Barbara and other students who took part in our first cohort of AP Capstone learned a great deal about research skills that will help them as they move into their post-secondary endeavors," Mrs. Milne added.
Administrated by The College Board, AP exams are designed to replicate first-year courses at university, giving advanced students a leg up in their post-secondary careers.
