This past weekend, we were very pleased to welcome over 280 families to campus to attend our annual Parent Open House. This two-day event provided a great opportunity for our students to tour their parents around campus to visit their classrooms and meet their teachers and advisors. By including students in these interviews, conversations centred around the students talking about their experience in different courses as well as being involved in goal setting for the remainder of the year. These vital conversations can be key at this point in the year for many students who are still settling into the routines and expectations of the school, while, for others, they were an affirmation of a term full of hard work and excellent effort.
Families had the opportunity to make connections with other parents, the Senior Leadership Team and House Directors at an evening reception in the Shaw Library, where feedback helped to highlight the great start to the year so far. The busy event also included presentations from the Guidance Office about post-secondary planning and careers, the Shawnigan Parent Association AGM, hockey games at the arena, and the Performing Art 8 production of Elf, which introduced a very talented Grade 8 class to the school and got many into the holiday spirit.
We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
