Students had the opportunity on Tuesday to learn about in-demand careers that they may not have previously considered when the WorkBC Find Your Fit Tour visited campus.
The Find Your Fit tour has been travelling around BC since 2010 highlighting high-demand, high-opportunity jobs in the province, ranging from computer programmer and civil engineer to chef and human resources professional to automotive service technician and air pilot.
Most students in Grades 8 through 10 participated in the event, along with some Grade 11 and 12 students. They were able to engage in a variety of hands-on activities related to the various careers being highlighted by WorkBC. Activities included coding stations, flight simulators, and an interactive kitchen where students could learn about the job of a dietitian.
“The students were seen collaborating and interacting in new ways,” said Mrs. Jennifer Hutchins, who facilitated the visit by the Find Your Fit Tour. “The organizers from WorkBC commented several times on how friendly and polite our students were. Shawnigan staff were most impressed with the interactive stations and the professionalism of the WorkBC staff. The activities were designed to help students uncover their strengths and interests as part of career education at Shawnigan.”
