Staff members and their families, local parents and families, and students who remained on campus over the long weekend were treated to an Easter Brunch in Marion Hall, prepared by Mr. Dustin Setso and the Food Services staff.
Mr. Setso says he aims for the “wow factor” when he prepares big holiday brunches, and this was no exception, with tables piled high with omelets, bacon, hashbrowns, and seafood platters, among many other delights. That’s not to mention the 30-foot long dessert table, capped off with a towering chocolate fountain.
It takes about three days to get everything ready for a brunch that size, says Mr. Setso, but it’s worth it.
“It’s a lot of work, but at the same time, when you see everyone come in and they are in awe of what we have put together, they see what a great place Shawnigan is.”
Mr. Setso says he and his team feel a lot of pride when parents and grandparents walk into Marion Hall, gasping, “Wow! We did not expect that.”
A few dozen students remained at the School over the four-day Easter weekend, and Mr. Setso was pleased to be able to make them feel at home by bringing them into the brunch as well. One of the students was celebrating her birthday, so the Food Services team made her a cheesecake.
“We got lots of good feedback,” Mr. Setso said. “The students are always grateful.”
In addition to the food, there were activities for staff kids (and some students!), like crafts and egg decorating.
With all the food that was prepared for the Sunday brunch, there was plenty left over for Easter Monday when staff kids and grandkids took part in an Easter egg hunt on campus organized by Ms. Kathini Cameron and her family.
