Welcome back!

Students return for Shawnigan's 100th year

Shawnigan welcomed 2016 on Wednesday, with a Headmaster's Gathering launching the School's Centennial and Centennial video (below).

A wintry campus sprang back to life, as students gathered in the Chapel to open a new and exciting calendar year.

Headmaster David Robertson began by introducing students to C.W. Lonsdale's backstory, and spoke about the Founder's vision for the School.

Centennial Director Phil Jarvis then presented former Chaplain and Headmaster Rev. Horace McClelland's foot locker from his time as a Parachute Regiment Chaplain, which has been used to house a time capsule created by members of the Class of 2016. Three members of the graduating class read letters they had written to their future selves while in grade eight, with other items from the time capsule now on display in Marion Hall.

The audience then enjoyed a sneak preview of the Centennial film, created in part by alumnus Nick Shepard ’93 (Ripley's), with support from School Archivist Lynn Rolston.

Shawnigan Lake School first opened in April of 1916, and an array of events is planned for the Centennial year, including the Official Opening on April 30th. Visit the Centennial web page for more.
