Deputy Headmaster Barry Welsh welcomed students back for the final term of the year at a Headmaster's Gathering in Chapel on Tuesday morning.
Mr. Welsh invited students and staff to speak about the varied initiatives happening over Spring Break, and used these tournaments and tours to underscore the value of being outside one's comfort zone, which provides opportunities to grow as teams and individuals.
Welcoming back several Shawnigan students who had been on exchanges abroad, the School also received two boys from Canberra Grammar School who will spend the next five weeks in Shawnigan's grade 10 program (in Duxbury House).
Students from Shawnigan's EDGE China and Thailand teams gave brief overviews of their experiences in Asia, with photos and blog entries available at slsedge.wordpress.com.
As well, Coach Vito Pasquale paid tribute to the senior boys basketball team's historic 5th place finish at the BC 'AA' Championship.
Finally, he touched on the golf team's tour to Arizona, which allowed the squad to be ready as competition begins in the coming weeks.
With just 12 short weeks remaining until Closing Day, Mr. Welsh echoed Coach Pasquale's comments about his basketball team's commitment, challenging students to "be the best they can be" as they head into a hectic spring term.
