Shawnigan students have stepped to the plate to help sick and injured children.
The Grade 11 Roundtable, under the guidance of Mr. Jason Lam, has once again spearheaded a 'Jeans Day' initiative, encouraging everyone at Shawingan to wear jeans for a day.
Students and staff could buy buttons and pins, with all donations raised going to the BC Children's Hospital.
In Chapel last week, student representative Thomas F. outlined the Roundtable's goal of $4,000, to be forwarded to the Excellence in Child Health Fund.
Another student, Neil S., then spoke about his experience with Children's Hospital, connected to his brother's battle with cerebral palsy. Neil spoke about not only the success of his brother's surgery, but also the kind nature of the staff. "There was never a shortage of smiles and friendly greetings from all the staff at the hospital as they helped my brother endure all of this," Neil said. "Their encouragement allowed him to always stay strong and positive, when most people would not have been able to."
After enjoying a day of casual philanthropy, the Roundtable reports collecting more than $5,500, including $4,600 from students alone.
