The Friesen Centre became an urbane café on Thursday, as grade 10 students took part in Shawnigan's third annual Showcase of Spoken Word Poetry.
Hosted by Declan P. and Jackson G., the event featured original poems ranging from social critiques to tributes to KFC.
One of the performers moved the audience to tears with his emotional backstory, while others showed incredible style as they explored spoken word's emphasis on wordplay and rhythm.
Declan and Jackson sent the audience home happy when they wrapped up the evening with an unscheduled, but hilarious, presentation about 'Social Barriers.'
