Athleticism and entertainment ricocheted off the walls during this weekend's Shawnigan Junior Open.
Featuring many of the top young players in Western Canada, the first major event of the season included more than 100 athletes in eight different divisions.
Excitement in the Shawnigan Sportsplex steadily grew to a stunning conclusion, as Canada's top-ranked under-19 player, Michael M., edged 3rd-ranked under-17 contender Ryan P. by two points in a marathon boys open final.
The girls open division also provided stellar entertainment, as Vancouver's Andrea T. upset Shawnigan standout Nour E. in the semifinal round before a come-from-behind victory over Victoria's Grace T. in the final.
Both the boys and girls open finals lasted for more than an hour, with spectators captivated throughout.
Other notable finishes include Rhys B's triumph in the boys 'gold' division, Aaron W's second-place finish in the boys 'silver' event, and Will J's second-place finish in boys 'bronze.'
