Thirty exchange students are on their way back to France after experiencing a taste of Shawnigan.
The group from Lycee Sacre Coeur in Angers, France, spent the past two weeks participating in classes, sport, fine art and meals at Shawnigan. They also toured Vancouver Island, with stops in Victoria and Tofino.
"I discovered beautiful landscapes and very, very nice people," said Raphaelle G., while Laura M. added "It's a really vast country … totally different from France."
The students said their farewells during the Headmaster's Gathering on Tuesday morning, thanking Shawnigan students and staff for their hospitality. The group also performed Feeling Good by Nina Simone and Vois Sur Ton Chemin, by Brunon Coulais, from the French movie Les Choristes.
The French students also encouraged their counterparts to take part in Shawnigan's next exchange to Angers, set for March, 2017. "They will discover something a little bit smaller," grins Laura M., "And I think they will also enjoy some freedoms they don't have here."
