A glittering conclusion

Gala wraps up historic year at SLS
Close to 500 people enjoyed good food, uplifting music and a toast to the past, as the Shawnigan community gathered for the final celebration of the School's Centennial year.

Saturday's Centennial Gala was an elegant black-tie event in Vancouver at the Rocky Mountaineer Train Station.

The event featured an inspiring speech by Mr. Jay Connolly ’80 and a performance by current parent and Canadian country music star George Canyon accompanied by his music director, and fellow Juno Award winner, Mike Little ’90. A highlight of the evening was a live auction spearheaded by current parent and board member Kathryn Shaw raising funds for an alumni scholarship program.

The video below was produced by Shawnigan alumnus Nicholas Shepard ’93 and Blue Chip Productions and features accompaniment by renowned tenor Ken Lavigne. At Saturday's Gala, Lavigne performed his vocals live, after being introduced by his wife Alice Lavigne, who is a 1994 Shawnigan graduate and descendant of founder C.W. Lonsdale.
