Shawnigan’s Midget Prep hockey team made the most of home ice this weekend.
The prep squad hosted a midget prep showcase at the Charlie Purdey Arena, with 10 teams combining for 16 regular-season games.
Shawnigan jumped out to an impressive start on Friday, scoring three power play goals in the first period en route to a 6-2 victory over Edge School.
Saturday’s contest against International Hockey Academy turned into a memorable affair, with the two sides tied 3-3 after 60 minutes. After a scoreless overtime session which included three breakaway saves by Zack G., the teams headed to an extended shootout, with call-up Kabore D. eventually providing the winning goal for Shawnigan in the ninth round.
The team closed out a successful weekend by beating Banff 4-1. Shawnigan fired 58 shots on goal in Sunday's win and got a four-point performance from Jackson D.
Shawnigan Midget Prep’s next game is Wednesday, Nov. 30 vs. Pacific Coast Academy. The Bantam Prep team will compete in a showcase in Calgary next weekend, while the varsity girls team hosts rival Delta for two key matchups.
