Shawnigan's hockey teams are strengthening rivalries as they head towards the Christmas break.
Girls Varsity:
The School's girls team hosted first-place Delta this weekend, engaging in a pair of tight battles.
On Saturday, Shawnigan got unassisted goals from Mishayla C. and Ashley M. and 40 saves from Kiara S. in a 2-1 victory. The teams faced-off once again Sunday morning, with Delta scoring a tying goal late in regulation before notching a power play goal in overtime.
Bantam Prep:
Shawnigan's Bantam Prep squad ventured to Calgary for a weekend showcase hosted by EDGE School. The boys opened the weekend with a 10-2 loss to Rink Hockey Academy, Friday evening.
On Saturday morning, Shawnigan fell behind 2-0 early in their matchup against EDGE, but rattled off four straight goals to earn a 4-2 win. Ethan A. scored the game-winning goal and added an empty-netter in the victory. The Bantam team lost 12-4 (vs. Pursuit of Excellence) and 5-2 (vs. Okanagan Hockey Academy) to close out the weekend.
Midget Prep:
Shawnigan's top team hosted EDGE for three games at the Charlie Purdey Arena, though only the first of these three contests was a regular season affair.
On Friday evening, a late equalizer from Jackson D. saved a point, as Edge scored a 4-3 overtime win.
The teams then traded exhibition wins, with Shawnigan winning on Saturday afternoon and EDGE winning on Sunday.
