Renfrew House shared a message of empowerment during Saturday's House chapel service.
In her opening address, Head of House Jess A. spoke about the process of becoming stronger and more confident with the support of others. She also paid tribute to friends, teachers, coaches and mentors who push Shawnigan students to be their best and to discover new passions and talents.
Touching on women's equality, Jess said, "we have the opportunity today, to speak up for ourselves and strengthen each other."
Dedicating the presentation to girls still fighting for their right to go to school, Renfrew selected the House hymns of all four girls houses for the morning's service.
Jess was supported by Clarisse O., who shared a touching message of gratitude to her Renfrew housemates. She was also joined by Anastasia G. and Cassia N., as the three five-year Renfrew girls spoke of how much they and their peers have been empowered during their Shawnigan careers.
For a musical offering, the House sang a joyful rendition of "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae.
Renfrew also led the Chapel in non-traditional prayers, as Tsewong D. offered a Tibetan Buddhist prayer and Victoria R. sang a Jewish blessing.
We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
