West Coast Science

Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre
Hot on the heels of Spring Break, the Biology 11, AP Biology 12 and Environmental Science 11 classes headed out for three days to the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre, on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Students were immersed in a flurry of activities including labs, field trips, hikes and boat trips. Many got to handle west coast marine invertebrates for the first time, go whale watching, hike through the rainforest to learn about the local plants and carry out their own experiments in the labs.

The trip to Brady’s Beach, the interactive invertebrate study, and the touch tank were the some of the students’ favourite activities. Working with scientists and university students allowed the classes to see ‘real’ science in action. It was an invaluable experience that won’t soon be forgotten.
