Shoreline clean up in Shawnigan

Caring for the local environment
As part of a long-standing annual tradition, Shawnigan’s E-Club participated in a Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup event on Wednesday. As usual, the club focused their efforts on the outflow portion of Shawnigan Creek, including Masons Beach and William Rivers Park.

The club is often able to remove upwards of 750 individual pieces of garbage from the shoreline area, including items like cigarette butts and tobacco packaging, food wrappers and cans, beverage containers and, in one case, a vacuum cleaner hose. As part of their clean-up mandate, the E-Club team members sorted through the retrieved garbage and recycled anything they could.
