Charity Hockey Game

Supporting mental health in the Cowichan Valley
Shawnigan Lake School was proud to partner with the Cowichan Community Centre, the Canadian Mental Health Association, and several other local organizations to raise funds and awareness for mental health on Sunday, January 26. The Cowichan Arena in nearby Duncan played host to a special charity hockey game between Montreal Canadiens alumni players and a team of Cowichan Capitals alumni. Our own Mr. Murdy, Director of Sport at Shawnigan, was invited to participate as a guest player with the Canadiens! Funds from the game went to the Cowichan Valley branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, and will be used for various mental health initiatives in the area.

Shawnigan hockey athletes supported the cause by volunteering at the arena and MacKinley B. sang the national anthem. Black and gold hockey jerseys could be spotted throughout the crowd as students helped to run the event by selling tickets, carrying bags, keeping the arena clean, and much more.
