EDGE Tour - Costa Rica

Students Interview each other

Kathleen
Kathleen was born in Duncan and has lived in Shawnigan Lake since. She is an open book and is very talented. She wants to be an applied psychologist, which is psychology in the real world and it’s how people interact with other people. She’s still trying to adjust to the heat here, but she’s so good at coping with it. I didn’t even notice. -Hannah S.
Seamus
Seamus is from Kazakhstan. He spent most of your time living in Kazakhstan, but he also lived in Canada for a while. Not a lot of people know that he is very internationally cultural, as he has been to more than 25 countries around the world. During this trip, Seamus has found himself having trouble with the bugs. They have been the thing that has bothering him the most in this trip. However, he looks forward to experiencing the Costa Rican culture, as well as getting to know more about other people. - Tarek A.

Tarek
Now Tarek, who has already been introduced to a new social atmosphere when firstly moving to Shawnigan this year, coming from Syria. Finds Costa Rica to be very similar in humidity to Lebanon where he regularly visited. When Tarek firstly came to Costa Rica being apart of the EDGE program, he found cold showers and extensive walks on the beach to be challenging and hard to adapt to. However, Tarek looks foreword to explore and to investigate this culturally new country. - Seamus D.

Jerry
This is a little biography of Jerry Chen, He is from Huainan, China. One thing many people don’t know about him is that he went to school and studied in Ottawa. On the first little bit of the trip Jerry has struggled with staying organized and being open with new people. He’s looking forward to experiencing the culture bonding with our teammates and making a positive impact. – Jake B.

Jake
Today, I am interviewing Jake Brown. To be honest, I don’t know him very well before we all went on the Costa Rica Trip, so I am excited to get to know him as well as everyone that is on the trip. First of all, he is from Salmonarm, BC, Canada. A thing that people don’t usually know about him is that Jake do a lot of art, such a painting and pastel work, he have attended art classes and would make art by himself. Something that he is struggling with on this trip is staying in new environments - like sleeping knowing that bugs might crawl up your bed or shaking the bed to make sure that no bugs are on the bed - basically staying in tune with nature. He is looking forward to the activities and experiences that are to come. Also learning about the nature and how different it is from Canada. - Jerry

Paige
Today I interviewed Paige. She was born in Vancouver but lives in Mill Bay. She is very afraid of sharks because as a kid her brother used to show her scary photos of them. In 2015 she went to Zimbabwe with an edge tripped and she liked working with the lions there. So far she has enjoyed bonding with the other members of our group and she looks forward to spending more time I Costa Rica and understanding the culture better. - Maya V.

Kokona
Kokona was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan which is very different from Shawnigan because of the big crowded cities. She is an only child and her mom raised her. She’s never been this deep into nature so everything in Costa Rica is a new experience for her. She hopes we get to see some turtles, and she’s really excited to swim soon. However, until she got to Parismina, she was not aware of the crocodiles hiding in the rivers. - Mimi G

Mimi
My person is Mimi. She is from Calgary. She loves to film, so she brought GoPro to make a movie on this trip. She has 2 older brothers. One goes to university in Calgary and one goes to high school in Calgary. Tucán is her favorite animal which is a bird in Costa Rica. - Kokona K
Maya
Maya grew up in Oona River BC which is a place with only 20 people. She lived there till she was 13. She now lives in Sointula which is the very north tip of Vancouver Island. Maya worked on her families boat for many years and spent lots of time there. She lived on a boat for the first three months of her life. Maya has travelled to lots of different and unique places before, so she is kind of used to being out of her comfort zone. She has enjoyed getting to know people and travelling as a group of people around her age. She is excited to learn more about Costa Rica and see some really cool places. - Paige M

Hannah
Hannah was born and kind of raised in Ireland, but moved to Canada in 2011. One fun fact about Hannah is that she has a very wide range of allergies such as bananas, grapes, dairy, etc. Something that Hannah had struggled with in costa rica so far is dealing with the many bugs as well as remembering to take her reactine. Overall, however, Hannah has been an incredible addition to the team, and an amazing new friend! -Kathleen H

Ella
Ella is feeling pretty swag as usual. She’s from Vancouver and loves to travel with her family. Her favourite place to travel is Mexico, which she goes every year. One struggle that she is encountering during this trip is the humidity. She is very excited to see some turtles (hopefully we will get to see one soon). She also really enjoyed the beach clean up today, as it is very meaningful to make an effort to the environment. - Chelsie W

Chelsie
Chelsie is from Hong Kong. She’s feeling pretty good. Even though she’s tired, she’s delighted to be here. She found today’s beach clean up very fulfilling. She has really enjoyed the food here and can’t wait for the home cooked meals. She’s very excited to go to Koswak and see the new community. - Ella
