Teacher Appreciation: Mrs. Lynne Grass

"Shawnigan has been an amazing place to spend my teaching career. This is the end of my 31st year as a teacher at Shawnigan. It has been a pleasure to teach so many great kids, and the comradery of the staff, the cohesiveness of the whole group, good attitudes and a caring community make it a pretty special place to be a teacher.
One special thing about teaching at Shawnigan is the tradition families have of sending multiple generations to the School. I am now teaching the sons and daughters of students I taught. That has been very special, because the connection is so much stronger because I knew the parents when they were in the same situation as their own kids. It has been interesting to see how some kids are so similar in their looks and character to their parents, but also so different; and to see them grow up, as I saw their own parents grow up, has been a very unique experience. I have even known the grandparents of some of the current students, which has led to some amazing relationships that span decades. Wherever in the world I travel, I always run into or reconnect with someone I taught at Shawnigan. I regularly get emails and phone calls from my past students telling me about what they are up to. The relationships at Shawnigan between students and teachers don’t just stay at Shawnigan, but seem to continue long after graduation. It's quite special, working here."
