Expanding Horizons

UN rep virtually visits Social Studies 10
Grade 10 students were given a boost in their preparations for the upcoming Global Goals Conference thanks to a special Zoom conversation with a representative from the United Nations during their Social Studies class on Monday morning.

Luis Buchir is the Director for Climate and the Environment for Mozambique and he graciously gave an hour of his time to talk with our students. Mr. Buchir spoke to the class about how climate change is affecting Mozambique and Southern Africa, what his role is, his strategic plan for the next two years, and his advice for their generation as world changers.

This fantastic opportunity gave our Grade 10s insight into the United Nations, helped them learn about what is going on in other parts of the world, and inspired many to think about what roles they may play both now and in the future. As Mr. Buchir said at the end of his presentation, “You are the ones that can change the world.”

Shawnigan Lake School is adhering to all COVID-19 guidelines released by the BC Ministries of Health and Education, including those regarding learning cohorts, physical distancing and mask-wearing when appropriate.
