Guidance Update Nov 26 2021

Greetings from the Guidance Office,

Our students returned from the break with new energy and enthusiasm for their university applications. Though some deadlines have passed or are approaching soon, the bulk of the deadlines extend into December and January. We continue to encourage our students to be on top of their emails and deadlines at all times. Please reach out to your students to check on their progress.
We have been working hard with the students aiming for the completion of most if not all of their applications before the holiday break so that they can enjoy their break knowing that they have worked as hard as they can and completed most of their post-secondary tasks.

We have had a few great visits, both virtually and in-person over the last few weeks. A few highlights were Huron University College, Bond University, Queen’s University and St. Francis Xavier University. A few weeks back we also were able to host the Director of Guidance from Marlborough College in the United Kingdom who gave our students an excellent presentation on how to write a successful personal statement for UK admissions.

Visits are starting to slow down as we head towards the holiday season but we encourage our students to read their emails and watch the board in the Friesen Centre for information about upcoming university events. The only scheduled visits right now are:

Dec 1: St. Mary’s University (Halifax)
Dec 3: Savannah College of Art and Design

Some interesting post-secondary news this week includes:

University of California system will not bring back any standardized testing for admissions

Shift back to online classes for Carleton University

As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
