Grade 10 Model UN

A day of diplomacy

Grade 10 students enjoyed a day of diplomacy, as the entire class participated in the annual Model UN event.

Working on this year's theme, Gender Equality, delegates prepared position papers in advance of Tuesday's conference, and then represented their assigned countries in committees as they worked towards resolutions.

The day began with a keynote speech from immigration lawyer Will Tao, who told delegates about his winding journey to law school.

"Don't forget your passions," he encouraged them, while also discussing a common theme at Shawnigan — that of servant leadership.

This year's Secretary General, Mary N., told students not to feel intimidated by the process.

"Don't be scared by the stories you've heard," she said. "Do not ever think that your opinion is meaningless."
