New York Trip

A theatre pilgrimage
It was a whirlwind tour in the mecca of American theatre.

12 Shawnigan students began their Christmas holidays with a five-day trip to New York City.

The contingent enjoyed Broadway and Off-Broadway shows including The Book of Mormon, Ride the Cyclone, The Lion King, The Humans, Chicago, Wicked and The Colour Purple.

Accompanied by Shawnigan's dynamic theatre duo of Kelli and Morgan McLeod, the group also enjoyed a walking tour of the city and visited a handful of iconic landmarks and museums.

"The shows were just great," says Mr. McLeod, Shawnigan's Director of Performing Art. "It was neat to see such a broad range of theatre, and also to see the theatres themselves."

Shawnigan's 2017 musical, In the Heights, runs Jan. 26-29 at Victoria's McPherson Playhouse.
