Brian Cunningham speaks about conceptual illustration
Shawnigan art students got a glimpse of cinematic design with a visit from a working professional.

Brian Cunningham ’90 (Copeman's) works as a conceptual illustrator in Vancouver, designing scenes, characters and props for high-profile films and TV shows.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Shawnigan's Artist in Residence gave a series of presentations to the School's art classes. Using graphics from movies he has helped design — including "The Revenant," "The BFG" and "Monster Trucks" — Cunningham spoke about how he works with producers and directors to create a vision and a 'look' for various projects.

"It's an amazing opportunity for aspiring artists," Mr. Don Rolston told his classes, while clutching several sketches he still had from Cunningham's time at Shawnigan.
