Drop Dead!

A hilarious murder-mystery

There's a snowstorm approaching and Lord Barrington is lying dead in his cheese, as Shawnigan Lake School presents Drop Dead! in the Hugh Wilkinson Theatre.

Directed by Sean Thornber, the show begins as a typical murder mystery, complete with overacted stock characters and hammy production cues.

We have a dead body (which we never see), and a detective set to lead a wealthy family through an investigation.

But then the director walks on stage, and the farce begins.

We soon have more familiar characters, ranging from the starry-eyed stagehand to the crooked producer to the bohemian writer.  The trick for Drop Dead!, however, is that this level of 'reality' soon becomes even more ridiculous than the play-within-a-play.

It's a fine line to walk: From the puerile names to the missing props and lighting cues, Drop Dead! manages to keep on getting more and more absurd, while still respecting the audience.

Running April 27-29 at 7:30 p.m., Drop Dead! is brilliantly cast, family-friendly, and concise.  More importantly, it's a show guaranteed to make the audience laugh.
