Indoor Field Hockey

Wrapping up a short season

Shawnigan's Indoor Field Hockey Program is winding down a short but eventful season.

Jan. 20-21, the girls faced tough, mature competition at an invitational tournament at UVic.

Jan. 27-28, Shawnigan entered two teams in the Malcolm Fernandez tournament in Duncan.

With Shawnigan 1 featuring many of the school's experienced players and Shawnigan 2 populated by those with little or no field hockey experience, the girls relied heavily on goalie Sedonia B., who guarded the net for both Shawnigan entries.

After a pair of losses in the round robin, Shawnigan 1 dropped a 3-2 nailbiter to the Island Wildcats in the tournament semifinals, setting up an all-Shawnigan matchup in the 3rd place game.

"The girls were thrown into the deep end," says Coach Claire Linn of the competitive tournaments at the end of a short season. "However, they learned really quickly and made some big improvements we can build on."
