Ski Week 2018

Shawnigan's 44th annual outdoors extravaganza

New leaders, friendships, and outdoors passions were discovered as Shawnigan returned to Manning Park for Ski Week 2018.

Nearly 400 energetic youngsters joined 65 staff members for the School's annual outdoors pilgrimage to the B.C. Interior, Feb. 4-9.

Privileged with some of the warmest weather in years, participants enjoyed six days of fun on the slopes and après-ski activities including broomball, snowshoeing, tubing, karaoke, trivia, board games and acoustic jam sessions.

30 intrepid students joined Mr. Kelsey McDaniel for the overnight snow camping expedition, while nearly 100 students took part in Wednesday's cross-country race.

The week also offered pivotal Inter-house points, with Lake's House claiming victory in the Reach for the Top event, Duxbury and Strathcona sharing a win in the Karaoke contest, and Renfrew's tribute to Pixar earning top spot in the Snow Sculpture competition.

As he handed out a volley of Ski Week awards on Tuesday morning, 20-year Ski Week veteran Nigel Mayes also paid tribute to staff and the Grade 11 leaders, saying "I haven't seen a group work as hard for others as this group of Grade 11s."
